When does the seminar start?

You can sign up September 5th. The first lesson goes live on September 5th. The last day to join the workshop is September 30th. The discussion board will be open until January 1st, 2019.

How much content is there?

There are two kinds of content: The videos that are presented throughout the Bootstrapper's Workshop featuring Seth Godin and the work done by people like you.

We release a new lesson with video every other day for the first three weeks (or 21 days) of the workshop. The videos are between 5-10 minutes.

Every video lesson comes with a set of questions that challenge you to explore how the lesson applies to your own work, and a call-to-action: to share your answers and insights on the discussion board.

The work you do is sharing your posts and commenting on other students' responses and asking each other questions in the 24/7 discussion board. It's called a workshop because this is where the real work happens. You'll soon discover just how much you have in common with others on this journey, even if they live in a different country, serve a difference audience and have access to different resources. This diversity is hard to find anywhere else.

How often is the content updated?

How will I be notified of new content? (SMS Reminders)

To make it easier for you, we send a short text every time a new lesson goes live (US and Canada only). There will be between 15-20 text messages over the entire workshop. Of course, we will never market to you or sell or rent your information to any other party. Msg and data rates may apply. You can stop this service at any time by typing "STOP".

What is the video content like?

In the videos, Seth will share frameworks for approaching the work of a bootstrapper, example stories to help you understand and see how it applies in the market and a prompt for you to consider and respond to on the discussion boards.

How does the discussion board work?

We're using Discourse, a platform that supports group discussions and one-on-one conversation.

The workshop team set up categories, which will be labeled according to the lesson topic to be discussed.

In each category, everyone will be able to create more specific topics of discussion, and to respond to the posts of others. These boards are open 24/7, providing a secure place to have conversations within the workshop community with peers from all over the world, from different industries and with different backgrounds.

The workshop has a dedicated team of coaches who help focus discussions and address concerns (or inappropriate behavior). But there is no moderator or grading rubric—you'll be in charge of when and how generously you interact with others.

Once the workshop ends, the work you’ve done and the connections you’ve made with others are likely to have enough momentum to keep moving. Many students form mastermind groups or have other ways of continuing to support each other.

We've seen groups like these last for years, with people getting on airplanes to meet in person. We'll provide guidance on maintaining these connections when the workshop ends.

What if I don't have a business to discuss yet (or am bound by an NDA)?

It's ok if you're in between jobs or still sketching out business plans. And we certainly don't want anyone to break any Non-Disclosure Agreements.

The discussions are a mix of what you’re noticing in the world and how you can apply the lessons to your immediate work. We’ve found these kinds of discussion help to solidify the concepts and make them more memorable.

If you're unable to discuss specifics of your current project, you can mentally outline an imaginary one that is a reasonably possible option in your future (if you're in between jobs), or one that has parallels to your current organization (if you're under an NDA). This still enables you to takeaway the core concepts and ideas in the workshop.

It might feel uncomfortable at first, but definitely engage with others in the discussion boards. In other seminars we’ve hosted, we’ve noticed something extraordinary: The people who got the most out of it spent the majority of their time helping others with their work. It turns out that teaching others is even more productive than learning.

The important thing isn't merely to watch the videos. It's to discover insights about how to apply the concepts of bootstrapping to real-world scenarios. And you can do this whether or not you're able to talk about your own actual, current business.

How is the workshop different from the altMBA and The Marketing Seminar?

The altMBA is about leadership, decision-making and the act of making change happen. It features dozens of live coaches with real-time videoconferencing. It's an intensive sprint. The altMBA costs 10 times as much, requires you to apply and doesn't feature any videos or Q&A. Only 150 people are in each cohort of the altMBA and the intimate scale enables a totally different experience.

The The Marketing Seminar is about learning the essentials of modern marketing. It features over 60 video lessons with Seth, Q&A opportunities, 24/7 discussion engagement with thousands of other professionals around the world, and content that remains open for months during the Seminar (both the videos and discussion boards). The Marketing Seminar helps you learn to see, understand and work with the dreams and desires of those you seek to serve.

In contrast, The Bootstrapper's Workshop is about creating value and having freedom and ownership of the work you do. The learning focuses on how to build your own projects where funding comes from your customers.

We hope that the learning journey you're on ends up including all three experiences, but there's virtually no overlap, so it doesn't matter which one you take first.

Should I consider Seth's Udemy courses?

This is the only place to engage with the content in The Bootstrapper’s Workshop.

Seth also has four top-rated courses on Udemy, each of which has been taken by thousands of people. There are reasonably priced courses on Leadership, Freelancing, Presentations and Value Creation. These links will give you a discount on most of them (thanks for reading the FAQs!) and you might find that the low cost of entry makes them worth an hour or two of your time.

Is the seminar accredited?

Proudly, no.

Accreditation makes sense for a certain kind of institution delivering a certain kind of education. But we're not willing to build a test-and-measure culture, not willing to embrace an ancient-yet-standard curriculum, and mostly, we're not willing to distrust our students.

We'll be delighted to offer you a certificate of completion when the workshop is successfully completed, and even better, we encourage you to find a cohort in the workshop who will personally vouch for your contributions.

Why does the course cost as much as it does?

The workshop costs $445.

We're charging more than other online courses for a simple reason: We want committed students. No one in the workshop is browsing around or hoping for a quick hit. You'll be surrounded by other people willing to do the work and contribute along the way.

Is there a money-back guarantee?

Our guarantee is simple: Participate. Do the work, write posts and contribute to discussions. When we’ve posted our final lesson, if you don’t think it was worth what you paid, simply ask and we’ll refund your payment. But this is a workshop, so if you don’t do the work, we can’t guarantee anything useful will happen for you.

Is there a special rate for groups?

Are there exams?

We're delighted to say no. And no grades, either. We feel really strongly that a test-and-measure culture is ruining education. More on this here.

Can I get a certificate at the end?

Every attendee receives a certificate as a PDF, suitable for printing and framing. And if you send us a self-addressed stamped envelope, we'll send you a physical certificate, signed and with a shiny seal.

How long does the discussion board stay active?

The discussion board will stay up until January 1st, 2019. Enrolled students can continue to use it at no cost. We'll also provide guidance on maintaining connections with other participants when the Seminar is over.

Can I post confidential materials on the discussion board?

The rules of our discussion board are:

  • Contribute more than you ask for.
  • Be kind.
  • What is said here, stays here.

With that said, please use your best judgment. If it's not something you can happily post online, best to disguise the details before you post it here.

Will Seth answer all of my questions?

Definitely not. And the good news is that you don't need him to. The workshop is designed to give you a compass and a template, not a map. The map, the details of your particular situation… that's all up to you. We hope the workshop will help empower your decisions along the way.

Is there an affiliate program?

There isn't. We're hoping that if you find it useful, you'll happily spread the word to your friends and colleagues.

How much experience do I need to take the workshop?
